Warmest congratulations to Gordon Askew MBE!

Post by Debbie Hepplewhite » Sun Jul 02, 2017 11:35 am

There are some people in life who stand out as going above and beyond their roles and responsibilities, Gordon Askew is one such person who has now been officially recognised as such.

The Reading Reform Foundation committee would like to wish Gordon warmest congratulations in response to him being awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, June 2017.

Gordon has dedicated himself to promoting evidence-informed reading instruction for many years. He has played a very significant role on behalf of the Department for Education in England in guiding policy writing, evaluation of programmes, training and teaching practices.

Gordon Askew is a founding member of the International Foundation for Effective Reading Instruction and you can read more about Gordon's work here:

Gordon has created two excellent, but very different blogs - both focused on literacy. Please do visit here:
ssphonix

Former primary headteacher, consultant, lecturer, inspector and phonics trainer.

No materials to sell. No services to sell. No vested interest at all.

Unless otherwise acknowledged, all views here are my own. However I make no apology for being outspoken. Those many children still being let down by our current education system need some truths to be heard, however uncomfortable they may be.

Magic Fiction Since Potter

Favourite works of children's fantasy fiction from the twenty-first century

Here are the occasional reflections of a joyful traveller along the strange pathways of fantasy and adventure. All my reviews are independent and unsolicited. To see where I started and why, please read my first ever post: My Quest, from April 2014.

On this blog you will find only recommendations, never negative reviews. If I read a book which I feel is less than wonderful (which happens far more often than not) then I simply don't write about it. I want this blog to be a celebration of some of the truly great books authors are currently writing for our children and of the important, life-affirming experiences these offer. It is but a very small thank you for the wonderful gifts these writers give.

Gordon has written in response to his award:
I was, recently, graciously awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list. It pleased me, not so much for myself, but as an affirmation of my career-long efforts to promote children's reading and the high quality literature which supports it.
