Repeated Reading

Does repeated reading of the same text help children learn to read well?

The National Curriculum for England states that children should be taught to
read aloud accurately books that are consistent with their developing phonic knowledge ...
and
re-read these books to build up their fluency and confidence in word reading.
Some synthetic phonics programme promote re-reading of texts, e.g., "Read Write Inc", but others do not mention it.

There is an American intervention programme called, "Repeated Readings" (RR). I found this link to it:

It does not mention phonics, so it is not about repeating a text in the same way as in the National Curriculum for England or as in Read Write Inc. However, it is interesting to see this summary of a study comparing Repeated Reading and wide reading:
