Those are good suggestions, but they all involve 'bitty' reading - the reading of just a small amount of text at a time. This is useful for children who are just getting the hang of reading, as it can be motivating, but there comes a point when bulk-reading becomes important to develop the stamina needed for long-term reading to learn. I think some children get into this quite seamlessly, but others may not, and adults can help by finding texts suited to those children's interests.
