Schools face double inspections to ensure reliability

Some schools in England could be visited twice on the same day by different Ofsted inspectors to test the reliability of findings.

The watchdog plans to pilot double inspections this term, with inspectors comparing judgements to see if they have reached the same conclusions.

If effective, the method could be included in a new inspection framework for "good schools" from September.

Unfortunately reliability isn't the same as validity.

Quite. I sometimes wonder where their brains have gone.

It's a bit like the old auditors' joke - if two pieces of paper have the same number on it must be right.

Teaching in Finland is a high prestige profession. When a sample of young Finnish teachers were asked to name some of the things that would put them of teaching, someone sitting in their class and judging their teaching came at the top of the list.

Depends who that someone is and what criteria they are using.
