Rosen's obsession

Post by Debbie Hepplewhite » Tue Jan 07, 2014 11:45 pm

Rosen states and writes:
Teaching phonics teaches children to decode. It doesn't teach them to read for meaning.
Michael Rosen appears to have formed some links with Stephen Krashen - now there's an interesting duo!

Rosen appears obsessed with the promotion of phonics apparently viewing it in opposition to reading for meaning.

It's very simple - why would anyone not want children - or anyone - to be able to decode words well?

And why would anyone consider that a child/person able to decode words well is therefore handicapped in his or her capacity to understand the words decoded?

It really is very strange logic!
