Michael Rosen appears to have formed some links with Stephen Krashen - now there's an interesting duo!Teaching phonics teaches children to decode. It doesn't teach them to read for meaning.
Rosen appears obsessed with the promotion of phonics apparently viewing it in opposition to reading for meaning.
It's very simple - why would anyone not want children - or anyone - to be able to decode words well?
And why would anyone consider that a child/person able to decode words well is therefore handicapped in his or her capacity to understand the words decoded?
It really is very strange logic!
