In the results for 11-year-olds, those reaching the required reading standard are up from 67 per cent to 78 per cent and maths from 69 per cent to 81 per cent.

Gove had a very bloody battle to change Downhills Primary School in Tottenham into Academy in Sept 2012. According to the Ofsted Report the school has adopted phonics - probably Ruth Miskin's though they don't specify which programme - and staff are still coming to grips with the programme. However, the change in a few months is staggering:
