Dreadful, poor practice of sounding out and blending - it's just not like this when done properly.

A child needing that much prompting was not ready to read that book.

And, to sound out 'jumble', just sound out throughout the word and this is more likely to trigger the 'oral' word than all the breaking up in bits.

This kind of video does SP no favours at all.

Excruciating . . . Yes, this is of course one of the problems of attempting to teach children to read through reading books. I wonder if each child is given this amount of time on a one to one on a daily basis?

By the way, what was Floppy thinking? "Squirrels"

Derrie - there is absolutely no problem using 'reading' books if these have been scrupulouslyand intelligently constructed - as many RRFers can testify.

This is a bit like saying my daughter could have learnt to play her viola by just playing pieces of music. I would dispute this, no matter how finely graded the pieces. Also how does this teach the reversibility of the alphabet code?

Is this the same guy from the Mr Thorne phonics clips? He seems to have lost his Midlands accent in all the other clips I had seen.
