Thankyou for all your replies. Yes I stuck to my guns. I kept the child who had been tested on the Lass test in the RML class and declined the offer to have her taken out for specific work on 'aural memory training/retention blah bah' Just where does common sense go in education? Yesterday, we were ...

Readers of the forum may be interested in some observations about this girl. I have the help of another experience...

Dear Jim I now teach secondary children to read using a synthetic phonics programme (Ruth Miskin Literacy). I used to be an EAL teacher and before that a TEFL teacher. (English as an additional language and English as a foreign language). I was always advised that once you have learned to read in on...

Dear Maggie It is as I suspected - my reply to your email has been returned undeliverable. I think this must also have happened a few months ago when I replied to you and did not hear back. I always meant to try again but you know how it is. Anyway will be in touch via this route soon with answers t...

Dear Susan re 'teach a mum' We have just completed the Ruth Miskin programme with a group of year 10 girls. At the very beginning it was a struggle as the girls spent a lot of time time-wasting and chatting. However as the course went on, they became avid students to the extent that they just taught...

we started doing the Ruth Miskin Literacy programme with a small number of children in years 7 8 and 9 in March this year. all those children have made good progress.
I absolutely love the course because it has enabed our children to start reading after several years of failure.

Multiple intelligences and OCR dyslexia course

I had to sit through at least an hour being taught about multiple intelligences and learning styles on my OCR course. It was plainly nonsense - long lists of characteristics of the various learning styles that as far as I could see were about as verifiable as the characteristics of the zodiac signs....

how can I contact Charliemouse?

Could someone tell me how I might contact Charliemouse.
I would like to ask her for a copy of her summary of Diane MacGuinness's book.
Thanks!

My OCR tutor has just been on the phone to me and god bless them they really do want to bend over backwards in order to get me to pass the certificate. Must take your advice Jim and try to be a nicer person and curtail tendency to be a know-all. I just wish I could clear some common ground and estab...

I have been doing the OCR Dyslexia course this year. Coincidentally, as part of my secondary school job, I got trained in the Ruth Miskin Literacy programme and managed the programme at my school this year. So I have been involved this year in a very clear and effective (we are seeing our children m...

OCR Dyslexia course further thoughts

thanks for the interest in what I said about the OCR Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) course. I am still trying to get my thoughts together and deciding what to do. One difficulty is that the two ladies who ran the course are both very nice people and over the course of a year I developed a...

OCR Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) Course

I am just about to fail the OCR Dyslexia course. Has anybody else experienced this course? I find it deeply worrying.
I would like to hear from you.

speaking and spelling

Does anybody have any comments please on the following idea for a game. If it is too simple and old hat. please accept my apologies. I go from the idea that reading and writing are a substitution code the two elements of which are 'phonemes' and graphemes. I feel that in reading, the student has inf...
