Re: The Politics of Phonics

This puts other aspects of reading instruction onto the back burner. Other aspects of reading? Comprehension, hea...

Re: The Politics of Phonics

In a nut shell, How can children read for pleasure if they can't read? The rest is just noise. Every reading for pleasure advocate I've ever come across has a visceral hatred of phonics, however much they try to disguise it. Yes, it would be lovely if teachers' professionalism could be trusted, but ...

Re: Teachers' literary competence

I know, Volunteer, I can read.

I'm asking Ken why he has started this thread. Is it out of genuine interest, or another excuse to have a go at teachers, or what?

The 6 NQTs at my school are brilliant.

Re: Mr Gove

Well, I can only go by the headings as I am not prepared to pay out for a subscription to view the whole package. Dodgy-looking in that it is being billed along the lines of education as entertainment. Dodgy-looking in that the subject matter is being trivialised. Millions of people died in WW1 WW2....

Re: Mr Gove

a) who is Russel Tarr?

b) the link goes to a site where I can't see any defence of an approach to history or mention of Michael Gove. Just a lot of dodgy-looking activities.

Where should I be looking?

And elsiep, sorry, I'd save yourself the trouble of detailed analysis of Mr Gove's speeches.

I can read and analyse things all by myself.

Re: Mr Gove

Sorry- doesn't do it for me, on any level. Mr Gove is witty, humorous, well-read, informed and passionate about children from poor backgrounds being given the best possible education. His speech yesterday PRAISED teachers. This sort of lazy satire just recycles the Michael Rosen-type lies and misinf...
