Re: Adult student

That's good, we're doing those and I can see why nonsense words takes the pressure off the learner.

Re: Adult student

Thank you Joan, that's very reassuring. I trained with Sounds-Write and I've got a small amount of adult resources but I'll take a look at the MRI books you mentioned. We had the first lesson this week and I learnt a lot! eg. their pronunciation was sometimes poor prior to blending but then fine whe...

Re: Michael Rosen webchat wednesday 2nd Sept

Hi New Statesman! I'm a mum-turned-tutor of synthetic phonics, and yes - teaching your own child is a different kettle of fish! I think there's quite a few parents on here so you'll see posts from us at times. I didn't know the theory at all so I did the Sounds-Write training and use those materials...

Adult student

Hi. I've been wanting to start teaching adult struggling readers for a while and have just started with one today  . Her daughter is struggling with reading at school a bit and she wants to help her (unfortunately I don't have space for her daughter at the moment due to school hours and no fre...

Re: Phonics Check

First response from Head of School Improvement at Islington - submit FOI request! We'll dig a bit deeper to see why but will submit one anyway.

Re: Phonics Check

Hi Papermover - I tried Islington because I have a contact who works there and found out that it was the Head of School Improvement who holds the PSC data for the Borough so he could email them direct. Fingers crossed. Then I'm going to try my local borough. Would be interesting to see any individua...

Information for parents/governors

Hi. I'm hoping to persuade the "there's still a place of whole-word teaching" head of my son's school to get his staff trained in proper phonics - I know, I know, it's not going to work but.. I'd like to collate a small file of up-to-date, relevant: data, policy (with dates), research, quotes etc so...

Re: Phonics Check

Hi. Going back to my original post about PSC scores and useful data: (% scores, KS2 scores (in the future I know, as I read Jennifer Chew's comment about PSC kids now being in year 4), % FSM, % SEN, phonics programme/framework used) If this is potentially useful data for RRF, how difficult is it to ...

Slow processing?

Hi - I'm a parent-turned-SP tutor. I've just assessed a Y2 boy (using Sounds-Write and Burt reading age materials) at the request of his mother - she is friends with the mother of another child I tutor. He scored really well on decoding, non-words and code knowledge and got an age appropriate score ...

Phonics Check

First of all, for those not on Twitter, thank you for an excellent conference. Really interesting and useful, and great to meet some of my phonics heroes  Does anyone know, are the DfE (or anyone else) doing analysis of phonics check down to individual school level of the 611 high scoring scho...

Re: Other difficulties

Update: the parents went to GP and have an OT referral for the local hospital. Meanwhile she's really getting the hang of SP and tackling more correspondences and longer words
